The scale does not start at zero — the values lie in a narrow range, and starting from zero the bars would be indistinguishable. The axis ticks are labeled.

The number of passenger cars with an internal combustion engine sold over the year, ordinary hybrids without charging included. The series is useful precisely in a pair with electric car sales: the two together give the whole market, and their movement shows whether substitution is under way or electric cars are so far simply adding to the earlier volume. The world peak in sales of internal combustion cars has passed, and the series has been falling since.
Important: Together with electric car sales it makes up the entire passenger car market: the IEA has no separate series for total sales, and it is obtained by adding these two.
How many electric cars were sold over the year — fully electric ones and plug-in hybrids.
Vehicles 2010–2025 Electric car share of salesWhat share of the cars sold over the year are electric.
Mortality 2000–2019 Road traffic death rateHow many people are killed in road accidents per 100,000 residents per year.
Vehicles 2010–2025 Electric car stockHow many electric cars there are on the country's roads in total — a cumulative stock, not sales for the year.
