About the indicator

The volume of freight and mail carried by air, in millions of tonne-kilometers: the mass of the cargo multiplied by the distance of the haul. Air freight accounts for less than 1% of world trade by weight but about a third of it by value — what goes by air is high-margin and time-sensitive goods.
