About the indicator

Exports of goods and services as a percent of GDP — a measure of how far an economy is oriented toward external markets. In small open economies and transit hubs the indicator can exceed 100% of GDP: exports are counted at the full value of the goods while GDP is counted as value added, so re-exports and assembly production inflate the figure.
