Lithium became a subject of separate attention because of traction batteries: demand for it is set by the production of electric vehicles, and output has grown several times over in the past decade. Concentration is extreme — practically all of it comes from Australia, Chile and China, so the market is more sensitive to events in one or two countries than any other commodity market.
Important: The table holds eight territories — that is everyone who mines lithium; for the rest it is not a gap in the data but a zero. USGS estimates are revised after the fact, so values for past years change in new releases.
