Alcohol consumption per person aged 15 and over, converted into liters of pure alcohol per year. The conversion is needed in order to compare countries with different drinking cultures: ten liters of pure alcohol is both a hundred liters of wine and two hundred fifty liters of beer. The estimate also includes unrecorded alcohol — homemade and illegal — which WHO estimates separately and which in a number of countries makes up a noticeable share.
Important: Per person over the age of 15, not per whole population and not per drinker. In countries where a significant part of the population does not drink at all, the consumption of those who do is correspondingly higher than the calculated average.
