About the indicator

The ratio of the book capital and reserves of banks to their total assets, without risk weighting. A simple but crude indicator of soundness: it does not account for the quality of assets, so in supervisory practice it is supplemented by capital adequacy requirements under the Basel standards.

Important: There are no aggregates for country groups: the correct weight is the total assets of banks, and we have no such series. The ratio is computed on book values, without adjusting for the risk of assets.
