About the indicator

Marketed natural gas production over the year, in billions of cubic meters. “Marketed” means gas after impurities have been removed and condensate extracted — that is, the gas that reaches the consumer rather than the gas lifted from the well: in some countries the difference between the two reaches a quarter, because part of the gas is reinjected into the reservoir or flared. The gas market remains tied to pipelines more tightly than the oil market, so large producers and large consumers usually turn out to be neighbors.

Important: Marketed gas, after impurities are removed: gas reinjected into the reservoir and gas flared are not included in this figure.
