The share of electricity generated by wind farms. Wind generation is older than solar and in most countries still larger: worldwide, wind yields about twice as much electricity. The largest shares are in countries with a long coastline and open spaces; in Denmark more than half of generation comes from wind, and that made it the first country in the world to work out how to run a power system dominated by a variable source — through links with its neighbors and flexible demand.
Important: The World Bank has no separate series for wind — it sits inside “other renewables”. Aggregates for groups of countries are weighted by generation in terawatt-hours and computed from 2000 onward.
