About the indicator

The number of female victims of intentional homicide during a calendar year, from UNODC. The indicator is customarily considered separately because the structure of such homicides is different: a significant part of them are committed within the family or by an intimate partner, whereas homicides of men are more often linked to street and organized crime. Because of this, the share of women among victims grows where the overall homicide rate falls.

Important: The sum across the sexes may diverge from the total: countries without a breakdown enter only the total indicator. For comparisons between countries the rate per 100,000 is the appropriate measure.
