About the indicator

The number of women who died during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days of its end from causes related to pregnancy, per 100,000 live births. The gap between countries exceeds a hundredfold and is almost entirely explained by the availability of skilled attendance at birth and of emergency obstetric care.
