About the indicator

The probability of death between the ages of 15 and 60 for women per thousand fifteen-year-olds. The World Bank publishes no combined adult mortality series — only the male and the female one — so these two indicators are not a breakdown but the only way to see mortality in working ages. The ratio of the male value to the female one usually lies between 1.3 and 2.5 and by itself serves as a measure of excess male mortality.

Important: Not an annual rate but a probability over 45 years of life. In countries with high maternal mortality this series runs noticeably higher than one might expect from the overall life expectancy of women.
