About the indicator

The number of foreign-born people as a percent of the whole population of a country. On this measure the world looks quite different from the picture given by the absolute number: the largest receiving countries by number of immigrants are large states, while by share the top rows go to small countries and territories where newcomers make up half of the population and more.

Important: The indicator does not distinguish the reasons for moving: labor migration, family reunification and forced displacement all fall into one figure. Forced migration is covered by the refugee indicators.
