Unlike absolute emissions, this indicator removes the effect of country size, which is why it is used in debates about the fair allocation of climate responsibility: the countries with the largest total emissions are not always the leaders per person.
Important: The aggregate for a group is all of its emissions divided by all of its population. That is why the world value is lower than the rich countries would suggest: the denominator is the entire population of the Earth.
