About the indicator

The number of units of national currency that buys the same set of goods and services inside the country as one dollar buys in the United States. Set against the market exchange rate it gives a measure of how far a currency is undervalued or overvalued: if the PPP factor is half the exchange rate, domestic prices are half the American ones, and any income in that country is worth twice what conversion at the exchange rate shows.

Important: There are no aggregates for country groups: the quantity is expressed in different currencies, and averaging it across countries is meaningless. Its ratio to the market exchange rate is the very adjustment from which all PPP indicators follow.
