Manufacturing value added in current US dollars — what plants and factories create, without mining, construction or energy. It is a subset of industry in the broad sense, and in absolute figures it is the measure by which industrial powers are identified: the top ten by this indicator differ from the list of the largest economies, and the divergence shows where an economy rests on production and where on services or raw materials.

Important: Part of industrial value added, not a quantity separate from it: the two indicators cannot be added together.
