About the indicator

GDP at purchasing power parity divided by the population. Of all aggregate indicators this is the soundest basis for comparing material living standards across countries: it accounts both for the size of the economy per person and for how much that money buys inside the country. It says nothing about inequality or about the non-market side of well-being.

Important: The aggregate for a group is all of its GDP at PPP over all of its population, not an average of country values. Conversion at PPP accounts for differences in price levels, so comparing countries by it is fairer than comparing them at market exchange rates.
