About the indicator

Gross domestic product in constant 2015 prices and at the exchange rate of that same year. Unlike nominal GDP, this series does not grow with inflation or with movements of the exchange rate, so it is the only one on which the size of a country's economy can be compared with its own past. The difference accumulates fast: over thirty years the nominal GDP of most countries grew several times more than the real one, and almost all of that difference is price growth.

Important: Suited to comparing a country with itself over time, but not countries with one another: conversion at the 2015 exchange rate does not account for differences in price levels. For cross-country comparison there is GDP at PPP.
