About the indicator

Value added by agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishing in current US dollars. Absolute figures and the share in GDP diverge here more than in any other sector: the share of agriculture is high in the poorest countries, where half the population works in it, while the largest volumes in money terms belong to China, India and the United States — countries where the share is small and output enormous.

Important: It covers forestry and fishing, not only crop and livestock farming. Subsistence production for own consumption is valued differently from country to country, and in the poorest countries that is a notable source of divergence.
