The estimated number of new and relapse cases of tuberculosis of all forms during a year. WHO counts not the detected cases but their estimated number: diagnosis in practice lags behind, and the gap between the estimate and the notifications itself serves as a measure of the quality of detection. In absolute numbers the picture is set by the large countries of Asia, whereas by incidence per 100,000 people the countries of southern Africa come first.

Important: An estimate with an uncertainty interval; the central one is taken. Cases of tuberculosis in people with HIV are counted here, and in the indicator of tuberculosis deaths they are not.
