About the indicator

The number of deaths from malaria per 100,000 people, according to the WHO global burden of disease estimates. The rate converts absolute numbers into a measure of risk: by number of deaths the most populous countries of Africa come first, and by mortality per 100,000 those where transmission goes on year-round and prevention is weaker. This series, unlike the absolute one, also contains countries with zero values.

Important: The WHO burden of disease estimates are recalculated in full retroactively, so values for past years change in new releases — that is a refinement of the model, not a change in the situation.
