About the indicator

The number of male victims of intentional homicide per 100,000 of the male population. UNODC data published through the World Bank database. The rate, unlike the absolute count, makes it possible to compare countries of different size: it is the rate that reveals how far the risk of being killed differs across countries — by tens of times.

Important: The denominator is the male population, not the whole of it. Male and female rates therefore do not add up to the overall one: they are computed from different denominators.
