About the indicator

The number of male victims of intentional homicide during a calendar year, from UNODC. The split of victims by sex is a stable regularity of world crime statistics: men make up about 80% of homicide victims in the world, and the gap is wider where the overall homicide rate is higher.

Important: The sum of male and female victims may not match the total number of homicides: some countries report data without a breakdown by sex, and such cases enter only the total indicator. The number of territories here is therefore smaller than in the “Number of intentional homicides” indicator.
