About the indicator

The market capitalization of domestic listed companies as a percent of GDP — the combined value of the shares of all companies quoted on national exchanges, excluding investment funds and foreign issuers. It measures the role of the equity market in financing the economy; in countries with a bank-centered model it is markedly lower at the same level of development.
