About the indicator

The index of the physical volume of production of food crops and livestock products, referenced to the 2014–2016 average (=100). It covers only edible output with nutritional value; coffee and tea, for example, are excluded. It allows the trend in food production to be compared free of the influence of prices.

Important: The aggregate for country groups is weighted by agricultural value added: a country's contribution to the overall index is set by the size of its farm sector, not by the number of its inhabitants.
